Building a Safer Future: ICA's Commitment to Safety This National Safety Month

This National Safety Month, the Insulation Contractors Association of New York (ICA) is proud to highlight our unwavering commitment to safety – a commitment that extends from the classroom to every jobsite, protecting our valued workforce and the general public.
Safety Starts with Foundational Training
At the heart of our safety philosophy is robust training. We work hand-in-hand with Local 12 Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers to ensure our apprentices receive the comprehensive safety education and hands-on experience necessary to excel.
Local 12's pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs are designed to equip new entrants with the competitive skills required by today's industry. This includes intensive classroom instruction and four years of on-the-job training under the guidance of experienced journeymen, who rigorously enforce safe practices from day one. This dedication ensures every apprentice builds a strong foundation in safety before stepping onto a complex job.
Prioritizing Safety On Every Jobsite
"We just want to make sure everyone goes home safely to their family," shares David Rivera, an ICA and Local 12 Insulator with International Asbestos Removal. This sentiment encapsulates the core of our daily mission.
The ICA partners closely with our contractor members to ensure every jobsite is equipped for maximum safety. This means providing access to the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), from essential gear to specialized lifelines like lanyards and tripods, guaranteeing that jobs are completed both efficiently and securely.
For specialized projects, our Jobsite Safety Directors collaborate with contractors to develop detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs). These MOPs act as a comprehensive game plan, ensuring every crew member understands and executes the project safely. Download our Method of Procedure Guide for more insight into our proactive planning.
Ensuring Public Safety Through Specialized Expertise
Beyond protecting our own employees, the ICA is deeply committed to the safety of the general public. Our journeymen undergo extensive specialized training and achieve critical certifications for advanced projects, including:
- SST Cards (Site Safety Training Cards) - 40 or 62 hours of safety training approved by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) that covers OSHA, Fall Prevention, Site Safety, Scaffold Users, and Drug and Alcohol Awareness to name a few.
- Confined Spaces
- Hazmat
- Mold Abatement
- PCB Awareness
- Asbestos Removal and Mediation
- Lead Removal and Mediation
- Firestopping
These advanced trainings and certifications underscore our dedication to completing work to the highest industry standards, creating safer environments for everyone.
