Women in Insulation
In Honor of Women’s History Month
According to the 2023 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up 11% of the construction industry. While the industry may be male-dominated, the Insulation Contractors Association is proud of the women in our industry that are shaping creativity in the office and on the field.
Cheyenne Sharpe, Insulator with Atlantic Contracting, loves the creativity of her job. She says it’s like “arts and crafts” and that every day is an opportunity to “make the impossible, possible.” According to Cheyenne, women can be successful in the industry by learning their craft and constantly striving to get better at the work they’re doing.
Cheyenne contributes to the 80% of women in the construction industry who say they love their job according to a survey conducted by Levelset in 2022.
Karen Grando, CEO of International Asbestos Removal, was working at her husband’s company when she saw the opportunity to take on environmental remediation work. She would receive many calls for asbestos removal that were turned down. So, Karen took the opportunity and opened a new business, IAR. For over 50 years, IAR has been a leader in the New York insulation industry. As a family-owned and Women’s Business Enterprise certified company, IAR continues to be recognized for their prioritization of safety and excellence.
Year over year, more women are entering the industry, and feel as if they have the opportunity to advance at their companies according to Levelset.
